Note: this driver type is available for Windows only.
ASIO drivers allow for low latencies and avoid track synchronization issues. In addition they allow for multichannel recording (Pro edition only). If a sound device comes with an ASIO driver then it's usually best to use it.
In the Audio Device section you can select the audio device that will be used.
On clicking the Control Panel button the driver's control panel will appear. This panel usually lets you set the buffer size. Buffers can be up to 4096 samples (this corresponds to 93 ms at 44.1/88.2 kHz and 85 ms at 48/96 kHz). A buffer size of 256 (at 44.1 kHz) can be considered a good compromise between reliability and low latency.
If the buffers are too small glitches will occur. This may not be a problem when playing back audio or recording MIDI, as the driver will usually stay in sync so any glitches will not appear in the final master. It's strongly recommended to use large enough buffers when recording audio, as glitches in the recorded track do appear in the master.
If the device manufacturer does not provide an ASIO driver, then you can install a third-party ASIO driver, such as ASIO4ALL; however, a third-party driver may not support all of the device's features. If you are not able to obtain an ASIO driver, or if you are not using ASIO-compliant audio devices, then use the Audition 3.0 Windows Sound driver.
In the MIDI In Devices section you can select the device that is used for MIDI recording.
In the MIDI Out Devices section you can select the device that is used for MIDI playback. The 'Default' option uses the default Windows MIDI output device.
Asio Driver
- Operating System: Windows ASIO4ALL is a freeware universal audio driver for Windows which supports ASIO. If your audio interface already has a native ASIO.
- ASIO Drivers will bridge the gap between your computer’s sound card and your DAW. If you don’t own an audio interface, or if your interface is class-compliant (no native ASIO driver), you will want the third party driver called ASIO4ALL.
Audio Output Control
The Audio Output Control (available from the Studio menu) controls which outputs will be used. The listed outputs will be used from top to bottom. They can be reordered by dragging and dropping them. So, you can to use the Syntheway VST Plugins with a ASIO4ALL driver and reduce the latency.
ASIO4ALL is a user mode component that is neither running nor even being loaded unless you start an ASIO host application. It does not overwrite/replace anything in your system except previous versions of itself. The worst thing that could possibly happen is that it crashes, in which case you simply uninstall and forget about it.
Combined 32/64 bit version, supports Win 98SE/ME/2k/XP/MCE/2003/XP64 and Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8.x/Windows 10 x86/x64
Minor update. Now Windows 10 is officially supported, even though it has been working all along.

- Combined 32/64 bit version, supports Win 98SE/ME/2k/XP/MCE/2003/XP64 and Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8.x/Windows 10 x86/x64
There is just one single change in this version. If your system is not affected, there is no reason to upgrade. Localized versions will not be provided, for the very same reason.
In order to successfully run ASIO4ALL, you need:
Asio Driver Update
A WDM-compatible operating system, such as Win98SE/ME/2k/XP/2003/XP64 or Windows Vista x86/x64.
A WDM-driver for your audio hardware. (Under Win2k/XP/Vista... this is implicit, not so under Win98SE/WinME.)
A couple minutes of your time and a little bit of luck.
What ASIO4ALL will NOT do:
Asio Driver Windows 7
Replace your existing sound card drivers or mess with them in any way.
Install any kernel mode components that could potentially affect the stability of your system.
'Overclock', or otherwise operate your audio hardware in ways that could potentially be harmful and/or void your warranty, except, of course, in cases where the manufacturer of your hardware has specifically stated that the use of ASIO4ALL would void your warranty indeed.
